Cotorin Loop Weave Revival (2012 - To Present)

Collaborating with various artisan families in the town of Gualupita, Estado de Mexico, we worked with weavers to revive a typical textured weaving style which became popular in Mexico in the 1950’s through the 1960’s.

This small textured loop weave was created to be used in the interior lining for a traditional vest worn by men in the town. Replicating the cosiness of a shearling coat. The town of Gualupita is a high altitude mountainous town located in central Mexico. We made rugs and x-large floor pillows with this weave also recreating the vest using Merino wool.

Currently we work in Oaxaca creating this line of rugs in Teotitlan del Valle, in locally procured wool wool and cotton.
