Christina Hattler, Mexchic’s founder, has been living and working in Mexico for over 17 years and in Oaxaca for 7 of them. Through all of those years she has closely collaborated with the most talented artisans around the country, not only for Mexchic but also has created exclusive textiles and product lines for international luxury hotel chains, world renowned restaurants and sold wholesale to numerous chic boutiques, including her beautifully made clothing and textiles for Mexchic’s flagship shop in Oaxaca’s historical centro. She has spent these last 17 years passionately exploring the country’s culture and craft while also digging in deep to develop her own art practice, which includes fiber research, natural dyes, spinning, weaving, embroidery and quilting. This vast knowledge base stems from a natural curiosity and love of and appreciation for Mexico.

Culminating now into a desire to share this information though exchanges and teaching experiences, courses, consulting and events specifically focused in and around the region of Oaxaca. Her wide network of friends and collaborators are the most talented and interesting artisans, contemporary artists and designers living and working in Oaxaca today and makes for a brilliant and colorful mix representative of contemporary Oaxaca.
